Consultation on the draft Justice and Other Legislation Amendment (Summary Procedure) Bill 2014

The Department of the Attorney-General and Justice is currently consulting on the draft Justice and Other Legislation Amendment (Summary Procedure) Bill 2014.

The Attorney-General, the Hon John Elferink MLA, announced in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly on 28 May 2013 the ‘Swift Justice Reforms’. 

The proposed Justice and Other Legislation Amendment (Summary Procedure) Bill 2014 aims to implement those reforms to summary criminal procedure in the Court of Summary Jurisdiction. 

It is anticipated that the Bill will be introduced in the Legislative Assembly in the June 2014 Sittings. The draft Bill and Discussion Paper are attached below.
