Emergency powers determination

The Director of Liquor Licensing determined his use of emergency powers under the provisions of the Liquor Act to introduce liquor restrictions for the Greater Darwin Area.

The exercising of these powers are in the interest of protecting all Northern Territory communities following serious concerns regarding numerous incidents of persons attempting to unlawfully transport (i.e grog running) large volumes of liquor to Top End communities that are in alcohol restricted areas.

From Monday 14 September 2020 liquor licensees in the Greater Darwin Region are required to ask the customer to present either a form of ID that bears a residential address in the Greater Darwin Area or be satisfied that the customer has a lawful place of residence where the liquor is to be consumed.

Restrictions are reviewed on a weekly basis.
