Monetary units

Some amounts of money in Northern Territory (NT) legislation are shown as monetary units rather than dollars.

For example, amounts paid to jurors and certain costs payable to lawyers.

For elections after 2020, electoral expenses will also be calculated in terms of monetary units.

How much is a monetary unit

The value of a monetary unit is calculated in line with changes to Darwin's Consumer Price Index, as set out in the Monetary Units Act 2018.

Read the Act.
